Starting in January of 2015, a new on-line application system Express Entry became the main vehicle for the applicants wishing to immigrate to Canada based on their professional qualifications. Each successful candidate obtains a certain amount of points based on the cumulative value of their credentials such as age, education, work experience and language proficiency. There is no set pass mark. With regular intervals the immigration authorities announce a pass mark that leads to invitations to apply for a certain number of potential immigrants. As such, it is important to stay up-to-date. Please visit the News section of our website regularly or subscribe to updates on our FB page.
To take advantage of the Express Entry system, candidates should follow this step-by-step process:
Find out whether you qualify
In order to be eligible to participate in the Express Entry program, all candidates must qualify under one of the underlying immigration programs, such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class Program. Please fill out the Preliminary Assessment form on our website for a free assessment of your chances to qualify.
Before you apply
In order to be able to complete the on-line profile for Express Entry, each applicant must have two things ready at hand:
- IELTS General with high scores;
Even though our team of immigration professionals cannot write IELTS for you, we do offer some useful tools to our clients as to how to increase their scores to the maximum of their ability. To find out when the next test will take place, please visit www.ielts.org for more information.
French language testing options include the Test d’évaluation du français (TEF), the Test de connaissance du français (TCF), and the Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (DELF)
- Educational Credential Evaluation report.
This prerequisite in intended to make sure that your education is accepted in Canada. A report will stipulate the level of education you would have obtained had you studied for your diploma in Canada. Our firm offers a comprehensive service to expedite the process of obtaining the ECE report from any of the listed accredited institutions.
Create on-line profile
Now you are ready to create an online Express Entry profile. At the same time you will be asked to register with Job Bank, the largest database of vacancies in Canada. The federal government and provincial government, as well as Canadian employers, are able to select candidates from this database. Immediately upon the completion of the process, the system will calculate your score according to the Comprehensive Ranking System criteria. The highest ranking candidates in the system are issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs).
Although it appears straightforward, there are many things to consider. Express Entry profile contains all of your vital information, which cannot be changed at a later date without affecting your score and eligibility. Any mistake that may appear insignificant to you may cause serious consequences in the future. Many applicants are not sure whether to declare their work experience obtained through illegal work placement or whether to declare education that was not completed. Proper legal advice on these and many other issues is of utmost importance.
What is more, once you are successful and your CRS score is selected, the immigration authorities allocate a strictly limited amount of time to submit your complete package of documents. It may not be feasible to adhere to these deadlines without advance preparation and competent advice.
Your Express Entry profile will be valid for 12 months. During this time, you will need to update your profile if circumstances change, such as your level of education or language test results. Candidates in the Express Entry pool who do not receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence after 12 months can recreate their profile and re-enter the pool if they still meet the criteria.
Wait for ITA
Once you receive an Invitation to Apply, you will have 60 days to submit the complete package containing all the required supporting documents translated and legalized in an appropriate format. Extension requests are generally refused. Missing documents often times results in a refusal of the entire application.
The main reason for such strict time constraints has to do with expediency objectives. From the date the complete application is received, CIC aims to process applications within six months.
Important things to consider:
- There are no government processing fees, so it is worth trying to apply for Express Entry even if you are not certain in your chances;
- The timing of the application is unclear. The six months processing promises refer to the time after the complete package of documents is received by the immigration authorities. It is impossible to predict when your score will reach the level of the highest-ranking candidates in the system because it depends on who is applying at a certain time.
- Learn more about the Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) and use the free CRS Calculator tool.
- Seek competent legal advice before attempting to do anything yourself.
- Deal with any medical or criminal inadmissibility issues you may have.
- Link with employers and maximise your chances for Canadian immigration.
- Promote yourself online before and after you apply for Express Entry.
Note! Canada is searching for a certain type of immigrant: one who is active, not passive, one who is prepared to work on improving his or her skills and obtain a skilled job. If anything, the Express Entry system is one that supports candidates who demonstrate a thorough but persistent attitude.
